[edit] The World Map

Introducing the world map. Out here, you can occasionally find items, as well as run into enemies. To get to the Martel Temple, your destination, head northwest. Along the way, you could run into any of the following enemies.

[edit] The Temple

As soon as you enter the temple area, you'll be stopped for a cutscene. After hearing the battle noises above, a priest will come stumbling down, clutching at his heart. He will die at the party's feet. If it makes you feel any better though, you're given an affection choice soon after, when Lloyd is faced with following Colette or letting her go on her own.

Now, get ready for your first major story battle! Ascend the stairs and you'll find an old lady getting interrogated by a big man with a bunch of soldier-esque characters. The lady is Colette's grandmother, Phaidra. The big man's name is Botta, who appears to be the leader of the "Desians", an accusation that causes his soldiers to scoff.

[edit] Miniboss: 2 Foot Soldiers

Foot Soldier HP: 600
TP: 38
No Elemental Strengths/Resistance

These two are fairly easy to take down. Just make sure you have Lloyd on the offense, or things may get difficult. As soon as they're down though, you'll get hit by someone much tougher; meet Vidaar, your first real boss.

[edit] Boss: Vidaar

Vidaar HP: 4000
TP: 30
No Elemental Strengths/Resistance

Unfortunately, this boss may bring you some trouble. After a short period of time, however, the battle pauses, and you're introduced to the next playable character - ??? (don't worry, he gets a name soon). Take full advantage of him! If you need a healer, he can do that. However, I find that he's best right now for continuing combos and fighting this gigantic lunk you're stuck against. If Vidaar uses Shatter Shot, the person who is hit is going down. Fortunately, your new character will help out quite a bit in ending the battle quickly.

[edit] Traversing the Temple

After a short cutscene, you learn that the character's name is Kratos, and he is a mercenary who agrees to travel alongside the Chosen to keep her safe. Worry not, however! Here's the third affection option in the game.

Whatever you answer, you'll learn that Lloyd is incredibly stubborn. From there, you'll follow Kratos into the Temple, where he gives you the Training Manual.

Head forward as soon as you enter to see a scene about the Sorcerer's Ring. If you go back and take the left path, you'll encounter an enemy (see the list below for possible enemies). Head to the right and take the open path, then go down into the basement area of the dungeon for your first puzzle. Walk on to the blue floor and you'll see the Sorcerer's Ring. However, Colette will notice something else - a Golem is running around, and she's about to trip over it. Kratos and Genis rush to her aid though, and you engage in battle with an easy Golem. After the easy monster is defeated, you see a scene where Colette falls into the mysterious block and drops it into the nearby hole, causing another Golem to appear. The other party members have a revelation, and you gain control again. Time to slay some golems!
Here's a step-by-step guide to complete this puzzle 100%.

  1. Fight the second Golem, and push the resulting block down the middle-right hole.
  2. After defeating the third Golem, push his block down the same hole (middle-right). It will land on the previous block. Go down the stairs, and approach that block from the left side. Push it into the nearby crevice. Follow the now-complete path to get a Panacea Bottle.
  3. Return to the blue floor. Fight the Golem and push his block down the middle-left hole.
  4. Repeat the process detailed in step two, but approach from the right this time. This will reward you with a Life Bottle.
  5. Return to the blue floor. Kill a Golem and push the resulting block through the top-middle hole. Repeat this process once more.
  6. Head back downstairs and push the second block forward into the mist. Cross the bridge to get the Sorcerer's Ring.

Now that that's finished, go back to the blue floor and head up the stairs on the left. Before you do, feel free to stop at the Memory Circle on the lowest floor and save your game. After taking the stairs, follow the path to find three treasure chests, one with an Apple Gel, one with a Life Bottle, and one with 250 Gald. Now, head back to where you saw the first scene and use the Sorcerer's Ring through the glowing bit to shoot and open the door. Take the warp.

[edit] Enter Remiel

In this room, you witness a major cutscene. Make sure you watch. This scene serves as an introduction to major plot points, and the characters meet Remiel, an "angel of judgment" who appears to be Colette's father. He provides Colette with the Cruxis Crystal that brings the Tower of Salvation to Sylvarant. Soon after the anime cutscene, and learning of the Seal of Fire, you regain control. Time for another affection decision.

Exit the room, and attempt to leave the temple. You'll run into Raine, who just so happens to be freaking out over the architecture. She scolds Lloyd and Genis (rather harshly, might I add), and orders you to leave the temple immediately. Do so, and return to Iselia.
